“Thus died in desolation and indignity the man who had once been the heart and soul of every society in which he moved, the genial current of whose temper had warmed many a heart, the model of a gentleman, master of a glowing, irrepressible humour, polite and god-fearing, a civilized human being. Alien hands tended him during his last breathing hours. Alien hands paid his last fees and arranged his last rites. Alien hands buried him in an alien land amid men and women of alien faith and nationality. For him the exile lasted into the next world.
“اس طرح وہ شخص ویرانی اور بے حرمتی میں مر گیا جو کبھی ہر معاشرے کا دل اور روح تھا جس میں وہ حرکت کرتا تھا، جس کے مزاج کے خوشگوار دھارے نے بہت سے دل وں کو گرما دیا تھا، ایک شریف آدمی کا نمونہ، ایک چمکتے ہوئے، ناقابل تسخیر مزاح کا مالک، شائستہ اور خدا سے ڈرنے والا، ایک مہذب انسان۔ اجنبی ہاتھوں نے اس کے آخری سانس لینے کے اوقات میں اس کا رخ کیا۔ اجنبی ہاتھوں نے اس کی آخری فیس ادا کی اور اس کی آخری رسومات کا انتظام کیا۔ اجنبی ہاتھوں نے اسے اجنبی عقیدے اور قومیت کے مردوں اور عورتوں کے درمیان ایک اجنبی سرزمین میں دفن کیا۔
اس کے لیے جلاوطنی اگلی دنیا میں قائم رہی۔ ”
